Groundies Tampere

Riding boots are a stylish must-have for colder days. Their classic design goes well with pretty much any outfit, no matter if it’s casual or dressy, and they are just warm enough to keep us feeling cosy while running everyday errands.

Material and Sole

The upper of the Tampere is made from soft cowhide and on the inside they are lined with a velvety microfibre which is also antibacterial. The boots are just warm enough for everyday use. Still, I would suggest adding thermal insoles during winter. I also put on thick socks or leg warmers when I plan to be outside longer.

Leather is usually quite water-resistant, especially when treated with a waterproofing spray. I’ve tested these boots in rain and snow and they’ve held up well.

The Tampere is equipped with the original GO1 sole which is the thinnest and most flexible of all Groundies’ soles. It’s my favourite since it offers the best ground feel. It’s not the most slip-proof, but these boots are not meant for the outdoors anyway.

Fit

The Tampere is best suited for a medium and medium/wide foot. I don’t think there’s enough room for truly a wide foot, and narrow foot will probably slide inside the boot too much since there’s no way to tighten it.

Even though the boots can’t be tightened, they still hug the ankles really well and the heels don’t lift while walking.

They are most suitable for medium-volume feet, and I think they should also work for those with low volume, when worn with insoles. High-volume feet most likely won’t have enough room for the warm insoles, which I consider a must during winter.
My foot is low/medium volume and the Tampere fits well with or without the insole, but it feels a bit tight over the instep when I add thick socks into the mix, so I prefer using leg warmers.

These boots are quite wide around the calves, so bear that in mind if a tight fit is important to you. On the other hand, the Tampere is a good option for those who usually struggle to zip up riding-style boots. I also don’t mind the extra space since I enjoy wearing these boots with thick leg warmers, like mentioned before. The circumference of the size 42 measures 42 cm.

I wear my usual Groundies size 42 with an inner length of 27.5 cm (my foot is 26.3 cm long and 10 cm wide; medium/wide; low/medium volume).

My Thoughts

The Tampere boots are not the warmest winter option but they are perfect for doing everyday stuff, like going to the office, or grabbing a cup of coffee with my friends. They are soft and comfy to wear, and not stiff at all, like riding boots often are.

They are my go-to when I want to look a bit more put together during the cold days. I usually pair them with jeans and a cute top, or with dresses, but they are so versatile that I could wear them with almost anything. Of course, they were also featured in my December 2021 Favourites and January 2022 Favourites.

They are also available in brown colour.
