Groundies Camden

The Camden is a classic Chelsea-style boot with a slightly higher design, which makes it even cooler and more elegant. It’s perfect for dressing up or down during the cooler autumn days.

General

  • Brand: Groundies
  • Model: Camden
  • Colour: Black
  • Price: 139.90 EUR at groundies.com
  • Available sizes: 36 – 43
  • My size: 42
    • My foot is 26.3 cm long and 10 cm wide; medium/wide; low/medium volume
  • Inner length:
    • 27.5 cm (size chart)
    • 27.4 cm (measured with plus12)

Material and Sole

  • Upper: smooth cowhide leather
  • Lining: thin faux fur
  • Sole: zero drop, thin and flexible GO1

The upper is made of smooth cowhide leather, which feels a bit stiff at first but it softens after a few minutes of wear. The leather has a slight grainy texture which adds to the character of the boots.

The leather is a good option for rainy days because of its water-repellent properties. I also sprayed my boots with a waterproofing spray for some extra protection.

The boots are lined with a thin faux fur lining. It’s very soft but don’t expect too much warmth from it, especially since the elastic parts of the boot aren’t lined, so the Camdens are more appropriate for autumn than for winter.

The Camden has my favourite Groundies’ sole – the GO1 which is zero drop and very thin and flexible. It also gives the shoes a slightly wider feel since there are no wall-like edges.

Fit

  • Wide toe-box (similar fit as other Groundies)
  • Best for average width and volume
  • Not recommended for wide or very high-volume feet
  • Secure hold around heel and ankles
  • Higher shaft: 19 cm

The Camden fits similarly as other Groundies. It has a wide toe-box with enough wiggle room for the toes.

It works best for a foot with an average width and volume. It’s quite roomy above the toes, but it’s not exceptionally voluminous over the instep.
I wouldn’t recommend the boots for those with wide or very high-volume feet, because I don’t think they are spacious enough.

The boot is nicely shaped around the heel so it holds it securely in place and doesn’t slide around. My heels and ankles are pretty narrow and the Camden boots work well for me.

The Camdens are a bit higher than what is usual for Chelsea boots, the shaft height is 19 cm. Despite the extra height, the top part doesn’t feel unpleasant.
Below is the photo with the Vivobarefoot Fulham for comparison.

I wear my usual Groundies size 42 with a measured inner length of 27.4 cm (my foot is 26.3 cm long and 10 cm wide; medium/wide; low/medium volume). They are slightly shorter than what is stated in the size chart, but I don’t notice it at all. It might as well be my mistake because it’s really hard to measure boots.
Since my feet are quite low-volume, I prefer wearing these with added insoles but they are ok without the insole too.

My Thoughts

  • Great autumn boots
  • Classic design with a higher shaft
  • High-quality textured leather
  • Casual or dressy
  • Two classic colours: black and brown

I’m so happy for finding these boots! They are exactly what I was looking for for autumn.

I like the classic design that’s just a bit different because of the higher shaft, I think it makes the boots more elegant. The slightly textured leather looks and feels high-quality, and is pleasant to wear after the initial slight stiffness wears out.

The Camdens can be used in casual or more dressy settings, and work great with trousers and skirts. These cool boots make every outfit look more stylish.
They are available in two classic colours – black and brown.
