Groundies Salzburg

The Groundies Salzburg is a stylish autumn boot. It looks special because of the large eyelets, wide laces and a contrasting heel loop.

Material and Sole

  • Upper: soft suede leather
  • Lining: thin velour-like, appropriate for autumn and mild winter
  • Sole: flexible and minimal GO1

The main material of the Salzburg is soft suede leather. I was worried that the boots will get dirty right away but they still look very nice after weeks of wear. I have treated them with a waterproofing spray which helps with the dirt too. Still, these aren’t my shoes of choice for the rainy and muddy days.
Luckily, there’s enough sunny days during this year’s autumn, so I can use them a lot anyway.

The boots are lined with a thin velour-like lining, which offers some warmth but not too much, so these are most appropriate for autumn and mild winter.

The Salzburg has the GO1 zero drop sole with 3.0 mm base and 3.3 mm profile. It’s the most minimal and flexible of all Groundies’ soles and offers a very good ground feel.

Fit

  • Most appropriate for feet with average width and volume
  • Slightly more snug fit, also good for narrow and low-volume feet
  • Not recommended for wide and high-volume feet
  • Good fixation

Groundies are usually appropriate for feet with an average width and volume, and the Salzburg is no different. The feel of the Salzburg is slightly more snug, probably because of the thin lining, so they could work well for narrow and low-volume feet.
I would not recommend them to those with wide or high-volume feet.

The boots can be fixated well with the laces and at the same time they are still easy to put on because of the zipper.

I wear my usual Groundies size 42 with a measured inner length of 27.5 cm (my foot is 26.3 cm long and 10 cm wide; medium/wide; low/medium volume). Since the fit is a bit less voluminous than Groundies usually are, I prefer wearing these without added insoles.

My Thoughts

  • Stylish look that can easily be paired with clothes
  • Grey-ish beige colour
  • Also available in black

I really like the look of the Salzburg, it’s so stylish. They work great with trousers and jeans, and with skirts and dresses too. The cool look comes from the large laces and eyelets, but unfortunately the laces look a bit cheap and like they can get damaged easily.

The colour is described as beige, but it’s a more cool-toned than expected. It’s somewhere in between beige and grey, I guess it could be described as taupe. It also pulls more beige or more grey in different lightnings. I think it’s a very pretty colour and very versatile, but probably not the best for muddy days.

The Salzburg is also available in black smooth leather and has a glossy black heel loop for contrast.
